Position:        Jordan’s Principle Coordinator               Term:  Contract - Full time

Department:  Fort Albany Administration                     Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000/year

Hours:            35 Hours per week                                  Location: Fort Albany

Fort Albany First Nation is seeking a Jordan’s Principle Coordinator to coordinate Jordan’s Principle services and requests for children and families in Fort Albany. The Jordan’s Principle Coordinator will work collaboratively with Fort Albany and their existing community services, to ensure children and youth are funded for appropriate services that meet their clinical and cultural needs. The Jordan’s Principal Coordinator will report to the Child Wellbeing Manager

 

Jordan’s Principle Coordinator Responsibilities:

 

●     Support Fort Albany community members with Jordan’s Principle funding requests related to a number of needs including but not limited to mental health and wellness, education, culture, and housing.

●     Perform administrative duties, such as answering phones and emails, and filing relevant documents related to Jordan’s Principle funding in Fort Albany.

●     Review all Jordan’s Principle documentation related to service and financial accessibility from a community perspective.

●     Familiarize self with all Department of Indigenous Services Canada documentation related to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal and Jordan’s Principle.

●     Assist in the tracking of received funding and completion of required reporting documentation for Jordan’s Principle.

●     Engage with community members and service providers to build relationships and assess where children and families can benefit from Jordan’s Principle funding, ensuring the mental health and wellness needs of individuals, families, and the community as a whole are being adequately supported.

Jordan’s Principle Coordinator Tasks:

  • Build trusting relationships with community members and families in Fort Albany who need Jordan’s Principle funding to effectively support them with the application process, and any required coordination once funding is received.

·         Navigate funding requests for housing altercation under Jordan’s Principle funding for children and families who meet the relevant requirements.

 

  • Communicate with Jordan’s Principle on behalf of Fort Albany community members who are applying for funding and provide advocacy as needed.
  • Provide Fort Albany community members with information on the different funding options available through Jordan’s Principle.
  • Work in collaboration with community service providers to identify individuals and families with unmet needs in the communities, and further collaborate to ensure all community members in need of funding are supported, providing outreach support when required.
  • Respond to documentation requirements, status of approvals and complete appeals, working in collaboration with Fort Albany service providers to secure supporting documentation for applications, including support letters as required.
  • Work in collaboration with families served to empower advocacy and assist in navigating the Jordan’s Principle application process.

Requirements and Logistics:

  • A degree, diploma, or certificate in a field related to Human Services, Education and Social Work.
  • Minimum requirement of 3 years experience working in the mental health field, specifically in coordinating and managing social programs and services.
  • Minimum requirement of 3 years experience working with children, youth, adults, couples, and families, specifically those with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of community and regional resources.
  • Reside in Fort Albany First Nation.
  • Fluency in Cree language an asset
  • Other relevant duties as required.
  • Valid class G Licence is an asset.

Salary to appropriate with job requirements, experience, and education.
