Summary
Kaa Yaa Me Sta Maa Ket Fort Albany First Nation and Prevention Services serves Fort Albany First Nation members. In addition to the full range of child welfare services also delivers mental health, family, and prevention services.
This is a key management position providing dynamic leadership in the organization. The Prevention Manager reports to Chief Executive Officer and will be responsible for conducting the day-to-day operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BSW required; MSW preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated superior leadership capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability in managing people, financial resources, and services.
- Ability to develop the practice and management skills of supervisors.
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate services and programs.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, collateral organizations, and community partners.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s licence.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Must be willing to be flexible.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Prevention Team Manager shall:
- Supervision of Staff
· Provides orientation and ongoing training to program supervisors with respect to their role as an employee of Kaa Yaa Me Sta Maa Ket, ensuring service responsibilities and policies and procedures are followed.
· Provides direction, support, and supervision to a team of supervisors that ensures achievement of service objectives and goals.
· Encourages the development of each supervisor’s knowledge and skills through the identification of learning goals, provision of regular performance feedback and imparting practice skill and techniques.
· Participates with program Supervisor(s), Kaa Yaa Me Sta Maa Ket and Human Resources Generalist in the recruitment and selection of team members.
· Implements Fort Albany First Nation Personnel Manual policies and procedures and monitors compliance.
· Provides guidance and support to supervisors during disciplinary procedures, as required.
· Completes an annual written performance evaluation for staff.
· When required, function as a supervisor.
- Program/Service Coordination and Planning
· Ensure that organization and work processes facilitate service and are consistent with the goals and objectives of the program(s) and Kaa Yaa Me Sta Maa Ket.
· Participate with the Kaa Yaa Me Sta Maa Ket in ongoing quality improvement reviews and develop objectives, activities, and outcomes consistent with program and agency goals.
· Ensures adherence to the standards set out in the Kaa Yaa Me Sta Maa Ket policies, protocols, and procedures as well as the Child & Family Services Act
· Ensures that child and family wellness services are delivered within the parameters of approved budgets.
· Ensures the trending, analysis and reporting on service data, volumes, projections, and statistics.
· Assists the CEO in the provision of relevant service data, reports, and projections for the board to facilitate decision making.
- Community Liaison
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners involved in program and service delivery.
- Attends meetings, case conferences and participates in teleconferences with or on behalf of CEO.
D. Management Team Participation
· Actively participates on the Fort Albany First Nation Management Team.
· Strives to create and maintain a positive working environment for all staff which values diversity and equity and support collaboration and teamwork.
· Provides leadership in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
· Identifies service delivery, practice, and management issues where policy development or revision is required.
· Participates in training, as necessary.
· Represents Kaa Yaa Me Sta Maa Ket in the community when requested.
· Assist with related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Possess an understanding of the design and operation of various service delivery models.
- Financial skills to oversee the financial results of all programs and services.
- Commitment to understanding and supporting the service delivery model, and organizational and service policies.
- Ability to work as part of a management team.
- Ability to speak the Cree Language would be an asset.
- Demonstrate strong management and team building skills.
- Demonstrate excellent planning, organizational, administrative, and oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation including but not limited to the Child & Family Services Act, Mental Health Act, Ontario Labour Code, Employment Standards, Human Rights Code and Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Demonstrated proficiency with various software packages including but not limited to word processing, database and or spreadsheet applications.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Demonstrate excellent analytical, problem solving, negotiating, consensus building, conflict resolution and decision-making skills.
