Hours: 35-40 Hours per week Location: Fort Albany

Position Summary
The Daycare Worker is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, respectful, and culturally enriching environment for children attending the daycare. The incumbent supports children's emotional, social, physical, cognitive, and spiritual development through age-appropriate programming, positive role modeling, and the incorporation of Indigenous culture, traditions, language, and values into daily activities.
The Daycare Worker works collaboratively with families, community members, Elders, and co-workers to promote the well-being, growth, and development of all children in care.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Child Care and Supervision
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
- Provide a caring, supportive, and inclusive environment.
- Monitor children's activities, behaviors, and interactions.
- Assist children with daily routines, including meals, rest periods, toileting, and hygiene.
- Respond appropriately to children's emotional and physical needs.
Program Planning and Delivery
- Plan and implement age-appropriate educational and recreational activities.
- Encourage learning through play, storytelling, art, music, outdoor activities, and cultural teachings.
- Support children's social, emotional, language, and motor skill development.
- Adapt activities to meet the individual needs of children.
Indigenous Cultural Programming
- Incorporate Indigenous culture, traditions, language, values, and land-based learning into daily programming.
- Support participation of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members in daycare activities.
- Promote respect for Indigenous heritage, identity, and traditional teachings.
- Celebrate cultural events, ceremonies, and community gatherings when appropriate.
Health and Safety
- Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment.
- Follow all daycare policies, health regulations, and safety procedures.
- Administer basic first aid when required and report incidents promptly.
- Monitor children for signs of illness or injury and report concerns to supervisors and parents/guardians.
- Participate in emergency drills and response procedures.
Communication and Family Engagement
- Maintain positive and professional relationships with parents and guardians.
- Communicate concerns regarding children's health, development, or behavior to the supervisor.
- Support family involvement in daycare activities and events.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and daycare operations.
Documentation
- Complete daily attendance records.
- Maintain activity logs, incident reports, and other required documentation.
- Report concerns related to child welfare, safety, or well-being in accordance with policies and applicable legislation.
Qualifications
Education
- Registered Early Childhood Education RECE) Certificate or Diploma preferred.
- Combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
- Experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, school, or community setting.
- Experience working within First Nations communities is considered an asset.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate programming.
- Understanding of Indigenous culture, history, traditions, and community values.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a busy childcare setting.
Required Certifications
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Vulnerable Sector Police Background Check.
- Medical Clearance (if required).
- Valid driver's license may be considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and participation in children's activities.
- Indoor and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Exposure to illness common in childcare environments.
- Occasional attendance at community and cultural events outside regular work hours.
