Position: FAFN Plumber
Department: Housing Salary Range: TBD
Hours: 35 Hours per week Location: Fort Albany

Reports to Housing Coordinator
The Plumber will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and repairs associated with plumbing and heating requirements. He or she will work using safe work practices with items such as, but not limited to: air conditioning, humidifiers, gas lines, water pipes and sewer utilities in and about the facilities, as well as maintaining and repairing compressed air lines, compressors and vacuum pumps. The Journeyman Plumber will deal with air and vacuum issues to keep production equipment running, make any repairs and/or contract outside services to resolve issues. Other duties will be assigned as necessary.

· Provides a framework of various levels of training and experience to be used when recruiting staff and serves as a mechanism for incremental advancement in responsibility and duties within this position.
· Conducts project review and planning.
· Reviews blueprints and specifications; ensures drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use.
- Maintains drawings to reflect accurately any changes and/or additions that are made to sewer or gas lines.
- Tends to plumbing, air and vacuum issues to keep production equipment running.
- Participates in all construction and remodeling projects involving plumbing, air conditioning or gas fitting changes and/or additions.
- Tends to the maintenance and preventative maintenance programs including cleaning for all plumbing, heating, and air conditioning, and air and vacuum related equipment.
- Maintains a list of suppliers for purchasing supplies and parts.
- Maintains a supply of regularly used parts and filters in stock, ordering replenishment as necessary.
- Submits orders for large parts to the Facilities Manager for approval.
- Assists Electricians and Carpenters as necessary for projects as time allows.
- Drives Company Vehicles.
- Proposes changes or modifications to plans to enhance operation and efficiency of systems plans and specifications for sanitation facilities.
- Develops goals and priorities; assigns tasks and projects.
- Develops staff skills and training plans.
- Counsels, trains and coaches assigned staff.
- Ensures accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
- Reviews coding accuracy of assigned accounts.
- Provides heating, cooling, and general plumbing systems training assistance.
- Provides technical Assistance/Emergency Response services to existing facilities.
- Tests repaired equipment for proper performance.
- Cleans, lubricates and performs other maintenance work.
- Instructs apprentices.
- Keeps detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
- Maintains a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance and repair techniques.
- Performs other assigned work as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent preferred
- Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training preferred.
- Appropriate credentials and certifications - Industrial Plumber Trade Certification, 5th Period Apprentice, and Industrial Plumber Red Seal Certificate preferred.
- experience as a Journeyman Plumber an asset .
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allows one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Able to work well under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Computer literate.
Work Conditions
- 24/7 availability may be required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
- Travel to off-site locations may be required.
- Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
- Overtime as required.
- Hazards associated with the trade.
- Work both indoors and outdoors.
- May be exposed to construction sites.
