Northern College is seeking a Veterinary Technician in our Veterinary Sciences department. The successful candidate will possess experience in providing professional animal care, effective inter-personal skills including problem-solving, conflict management, decision making, effective communication skills (verbal and written), and computer skills (MS Office Suite)

Reporting to the Dean, Sciences, the successful candidate will provide leadership to other part-time Registered Veterinary
Technicians (RVTs), provide support for the faculty and students in the school of Veterinary Sciences.

What you will be doing:

  • Provide facilities support, including equipment maintenance and custodial duties;
  • Provide care of program animals (including sourcing the animals; responsible for their medical care (under colony veterinarian guidance), usage and medical records, and their end-of-year adoption/return to source;
  • Provide oversight of veterinary sciences students during kennel duty;
  • Purchasing and inventory control; and
  • Provide laboratory assistance as required to a professor (e.g. preparing specimen samples pre-class but also including in-classroom assistance to a specific course and professor).

What you will need to be considered:

  • Two (2) -year Veterinary Technician diploma;
  • Must be a registered member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technician (RVT); and
  • Three (3) years of experience in a clinical practice or equivalent experience working with animals.
